After drying the sheaves on site, the bundles were moved closer to the farm where the threshing took place. They were packed as wheatstacks waiting for the threshing machine going from farm to farm. To protect the bundles from the rain, each wheatstack was covered with sloping thatched top. This required a lot of expertise that only few people got.
